Lunch

I just got back from Lunch with Dad. My dad loves his Bak Chor Mee... so do I. So we both went Bak Chor Mee hunting. I should probably get down to some serious work right now... Will try and head out in the evening... Oh wait... I think I'll blog on my trip later in the day... On a happier note... I think my jet lag is gone! Again I shall post a series of entries on what I have been up to the last 1 week... I am starting to enjoy this life of solitude a bit too much... hahaha

PS: I just realized how himbotic my post sounded. I'll try and salvage it when I get back to this page later in the evening :)

Work done

I am finally done with my EU Term paper... All I have left is a project and another term paper due next week. Learning from this experience, I probably should get started on my next term paper... about... now... :) I should also consider working out sometime soon... I am so... out of shape :(

Mambo Night... @ D407 that is :)

Its that time of the week again. The night where we're all to dress up and chug down to Zouk for that weekly dose of music from the 80's and 90's... Well let me tell you... those days are gone... gone I tell yar...

I got back my French term paper tomorrow and I must say I am pretty disappointed with the marks... I did have a little chat with my tutor and she gave me some pretty good advice... that I shouldn't write too ambitiously and that I should have more realistic expectations in my linguistic abilities. Sigh... I think I have been slacking a bit too much...

The haze descended like a choking blanket upon NUS sometime early in the afternoon... and didn't go away.... My nose's been dripping/ running and its getting a teeny bit hard to breathe easy. I haven't been really focused this few days and I believe (as I have mentioned before...) if you write it... you'll do it.... hahaha alrighty... time for dinner and its mug mug mug mug mug...

Swimming was pretty darn fun too...

PS: I think they should consider voting the MCs for Singapore Idol out too... He's supposed to be an MC and not a comedian... the other an MC and not a STATUE...

Recovery

My head's been throbbing ever since that "incident" last Sunday. I am not exactly sure what the heck is going on, but I don't think there's much to fear since I have suffered much more severe blows to my cranium in the past and have come out none the worse for wear after those bumps. Besides, it isn't like I had anything important up there in the first place. On top of the sporadic headaches, I am down with a cold and conjunctivitis. The cold coupled with the sinus problem that has been aggravated because of the chill I got during yesterday's swim could be what's adding on to the headaches. The other worrying thing is the tear (Yes Norman... you were right...) which happened on the cornea of my left eye. According to my GP it should take about a week to heal. It is rather sickening that all these ailments start cropping up after the damn exams and just when I need to start upping the tempo. I did manage to get myself out for a supposed long run this morning, but after about 10.2 km, I had to stop cause I really couldn't take the heat and the "exercise induced migraine" which was really starting to hurt. I decided that I ain't going to stop the workouts just yet but I will definitely reduce the intensity that I'll be performing them at. Let's just hope my body and faith in myself don't fail me now... :)

Coming Soon.

Its working for ZY so I believe its going to bloody hell work for me too. I am going to start a list of stuff than I am going to accomplish before the year is out... and I am going to publish it here. Correlation doesn't imply causality some might argue but hey if it works for her it might work for me right. Let's see... knowing all the questions to MA1102R, VIP status at subway, 27 hours in a day (I just need three more for the bike ride...).... :)

Sunday Morning Work-Out

The morning began at 6 am for me. Got up... lulled around a bit... downed a bowl of museli and nuts with that double shot expresso before dressing up and heading out. I am just going to stick with the point form narrative cause this is supposed to be a quick update (yes I am going to mug my arse off in about 10 minutes time...) and I don't want to delve too much into the gritty details.

Most of the guys and girls arrived by 7.45 am and it wasn't long before we headed out for our Sunday ride...

ok here's the ride brief:

I broke off and stuck with Nic and Norman for the remainder of the ride :)

Had lunch at Mac's

Cycled home with JY

Heard the unfortunate news about Lemin's accident...

OK... thats' about it... from me anyway... time to mug!!!

8th March 2009

Alone. That was how I spent my 22nd anniversary on this miserable piece of rock we call earth. No fanfare whatsoever, just a nice book, two to three good movies, coffee, and slices of green tea cake (Thanks dudes!) to keep me nice and warm on the inside.

I was supposed to ride in the morning, but I woke up running a fever, with a terrible headache and terrible muscle aches. The pain and aches subsided as the day went by, but from what I heard, I missed out a rather enjoyable ride. My appetite's not been too good and I could only manage a small packet of "char siew" rice and two slices of birthday cake for the whole of today. I hope I recover in time for the race at the end of this week.

Yesterday wasn't a good day for me personally but I guess "you reap what you sow", and I paid the ultimate price for my absolute lack f discipline and focus. I blame no one but myself for the poor showing. Lunch after that episode more than made up for the earlier disappointment and I must admit that I was really touched by the birthday cake and all. Thanks a lot guys and gals. I meant everything I said during the lunch before I sliced up the cake. Uni life thus far has not been turning out as how I expected it to be but your company and companionship, through the ups and downs have more then made the journey thus far worthwhile. I have been been quite an arsehole at times but... hey... it comes with the package aye?

My parents and my sis brought back a really nice cake from Taka too and that was pretty much the highlight of my 22nd Birthday. So... with that... I guess its time for me to hit the sack...

Quote of the Week

Discourtesy does not spring merely from one bad quality, but from several--from foolish vanity, from ignorance of what is due to others, from indolence, from stupidity, from distraction of thought, from contempt of others, from jealousy.

Jean de la Bruyere
French moralist (1645 - 1696)

I couldn't have put it any better myself.

Points to ponder...

There are a couple of issues to address in this particular entry, so without further ado we shall plunge into the very first one which involves the tearful and all together emotional (I thought I'd add a bit of drama to bring the mood up/down a notch) departure of M to the land of Ice hockey and atlantic lobsters (I hope I got that right). You will be missed regardless of your failure to uphold your end of the bargain with regards to more coffee sessions and gaming sessions prior to your departure. Despite a hundred percent improvement over your last visit back, two sessions at Starbucks barely qualifies as remarkable in mine or anyone else's opinion. Nevertheless, have an enjoyable time over there and should circumstances permit, we'll fly up to join you come the season of giving and taking.

The wound is healing very well indeed according to the man who sliced me up, and given proper care and constant cleansing, I should be up and running in no time. It has been a week since the procedure and with the exception of the periodical discharge and occasional discomfort, I am more or less almost fully functional. During today's follow-up with the doctor, I reviewed the final report with him and got a chance to view the pictures of the sectioned (removed) piece of meat. Call me sick and all but I noticed a slight resemblance between it and a piece of pig's intestine from the Kway Chap store. We shall conclude the update on my medical condition here, and you may take a 5 min breather to refresh yourself in the washroom :)

Soon after the follow up, I headed to the NTUC fairprice supermarket to do a bit of grocery shopping with my mom. The trip was rather uneventful as expected but one incident did get me thinking. I am not sure if you recall the hype over the over usage of plastic bags in supermarkets, bakeries and other outlets a while back. For those who were not around or simply could not be bothered by the whole saga, the background is as follow;

- The people of Singapore, who's interest are represented by tedious associations with fancy plans (No ill intent there...), decided that the community as a whole should give back to Gaia and Mother Nature hence marking the start of the mini green revolution

- Part of the "Go Green" campaign includes the reduction in the usage of plastic bags across the board, and one of the means of incorporating this objective into the revolution includes charging individuals for the use and distribution of plastic bags

- Soon after came the usual backlash on the forums and in the supermarkets against the poor aunties who had no idea why the heck they were being screamed at by the angry customers who refused to pay for the bags.

- And with every other uproar we have, the whole thing died a natural death about 72 hours later.

With the rather high level overview out of the way, we shall draw our attention back to my grocery outing with my mother. The whole irony of the plastic bag saga lies in the fact that the despite the restrictions put in place by the various committees the transparent plastic bags within the stores were still free for all to use. So what you had eventually were; aunties lugging out large amounts of groceries in those "green bags" in which all the fruits and frozen meat were individually wrapped in the small tiny transparent bags, as they didn't want to risk dirtying the reusable bags. This, in my opinion, negates the whole purpose in even initiating this exercise. Its just like spending a dollar to save 45 cents. It simply doesn't serve the purpose.

I believe that following in the examples set out by grocers in the US and other western countries (as observed in CSI, Desperate housewives and other western serials), which is to use recycled paper bags instead for the individual wraps; OR the associations could propose that the producers better shrink wrap their products hence removing the use for small plastic bags altogether. (I just downed some really strong medicine so I ain't in the best of state to come out with the best counter proposals now :P )

Well my two cent's worth on the issue anyway. I have been tasked with picking up my sister later from school so its best I catch some rest before I head out. Till the next entry then.

"It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations."

- Sir Winston Churchill

"I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognized (as) wiser than oneself"

- Marlene Dietrich

In my humble opinion, the above two quotations best explain why I do what I do at the end of every entry. Like a cobra flashing its hood or a peacock erecting its tail in a fan-shaped manner, I brutally attempt to showcase whatever intelligence I may contain after three years of sever neglect through the quotation of quotes by others, in hope of ascending to ranks of these noble intellects in time to come. I hope that answers your question :)

Friendship Club

"Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation."

- George Washington, First president of US (1732 - 1799)

Time and Friendship. Two seemingly distant qualities which to many bear virtually no similarities whatsoever. I never saw the co-relation between either too till rather recently. I can't seem to really put down in words this particular revelation I have, so the quote above by Mr Washington will have to suffice for now. Besides, the quote really does capture the essence of the whole concept of the fostering of good friendship.

On a lighter note, the past weekend went extremely well for me. Met the Menage e Trois on a friday after dance classes for the usual movie marathon. The theme for the night was "Crappy Movies" so our top two picks were "Ecks VS. Severs" and "Alien Resurrection". Both movies clearly reflected the theme and lived up to the preconceived reputation we had of them. Thanks again for a wonderful Friday.

I had no plans for the most of Saturday so I spent the day gymming and swimming. Looking at the mirror, there is definitely room for improvement, much more room in fact. :)

After the short but hopefully effective workout session, I headed down to Changi sailing club for a Wee Chin's 21st. Good food, rustic yet nostalgic environment with a ridiculous amount of alcohol. Perfect. Its been a while since the whole group of us got together and I must agree with Wong that we really should do this more often... I was the self designated driver for the night so I was spared the embarrassment of getting drunk silly :).

Slept in a bit on Sunday morning before meeting an old friend for a movie and drinks. We caught "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" at Vivo before parting. It was a really good french flick... which warrants a entire entry to itself. :)

I must say that dinner later that evening was wonderful. Pics and entries coming soon...

Monday... 4 and half more days to go...

What a Blast...

I must say that I've had a pretty fun filled weekend this week. After an amazing 5 days of lazing around at home doing nothing but surfing the History channel and setting up my blog, playing with the dog and washing dishes, the weekend came as a much needed refresher for me.
Sat started off with a nice splendid dinner with some close friends before the group split up... with the rest headed for some other function. C and I proceeded to meet his old friend for more chow before heading to a friends party... ok now to the main storey...
Arrived at M at about 15min past ten. chilled out with old friends there and cuaght up with new ones before headed down to "lalaland". My my the fun we had... got pretty damn high and was dnacing everywhere haha...
Sunday for me started off in the afternoon due to the late night/early morning activity for me earlier. Went to busy myself form 2-6 before meeting friends for dinner and coffee. Again, it was excellent company and we had a great time bitching about everything. (Thanks For the Gift yar... love it!!!)
took a train home and proceeded to watch Constantine with mum... lol had to give her a full time narration of what was going on... lol...
Ok its kinda late so i'll def brush up on the blog entry soon... zzzzz
