It has been a while since I bitched about anything, so I must say that what I witnessed today... well let's just say that this entry couldn't wait any longer.
I am not a morning person. School last semester didn't help much in converting me into one either. With last semester's earliest lesson starting at 12 and most training sessions in the evening, there was absolutely no need for me to be up any earlier then say... 11? 10?
That honeymoon came to a crashing end this semester though, as soon as I realized that I would now have 8 a.m. lessons, from Tuesday to Friday... 4 damn freaking days. The first week was disastrous with me missing half the lessons and simply zonking out in the remaining half that I successfully managed to attend. Anyway, its the end of the second week now and I am pretty confident that particular worry is now behind me.
Anyway, coming back to the issue at end, I had a 8 a.m. Calculus class today at the Science faculty. The lecture went well and despite me not understanding 35 percent of it (I am pretty sure I'll get it in the end), I enjoyed dealing with concrete numbers instead of wishy-washy arguments for a change. At exactly 9.40 a.m. however, my impression of the science faculty (now I understand Aldrich and JJ... the pains you endure to just get by everyday) changed forever. At 9.40 a.m., the lecture doors opened and a flood of students, from a particular nation, came rushing in, swarming the lecture theatre. There was a mad scramble for the centre seats and books, bags, pencil boxes and all were hurriedly used to "chope" seats for their fellow "comrades". This phenomenon was an eye-opener for me, I mean I have witnessed students rushing OUT from a lecture BEFORE the lecture ended but never IN to a lecture theatre BEFORE the previous occupants in the LT have even packed up their stuff. There is nothing wrong I guess with being over enthusiastic about going to class but it certainly does put things in perspective. Am I taking my academic pursuits not seriously enough, or are my overseas study mates simply going way overboard? Food for thought aye? :)
